Man Attempts Suicide Outside 'Today Show' Slits His Wrists As Anchors Evacuated [Video]

"The Today Show" had a rude awakening this morning when a man attempted to committ suicide while just outside the show's Rockefeller Studios locale.

Cops claim the man—believed to be in his 50's—cut himself with a knife around 7:50 a.m. this morning and was later taken to St. Lukes for treatment.

The Today Show announced the incident on their show, and they sent a tweet out confirming he used a knife to self-harm himself in an apparent suicide attempt outside the show's Rockefeller Studios location.

Video below shows a man staggering behind the Today Show partition that separates the crowd from the crew.

As the man staggers police tackle him, and later photographs and videos show blooding streaming into the street.

The Today Show started their 8 a.m. segment with Matt Lauer mentioning the suicide attempt that had just transpired, and why they were inside the studio rather than outside.

The windows that usually look out on the Rockefeller crowd were also blocked with additional partitions while the police and Today Show security restored order and took the man into treatment.

"There was an incident out on the plaza," Lauer told Today Show viewers this morning. "A man tried to harm himself with a knife. He did manage to cut himself. He was controlled by our security team out there...He's being treated by medical personnel."

Lauer later tweeted out a thanks to NYPD and the Today Show security team who handled the suicide attempt and kept everyone calm and safe while also rescuing the man himself.
