Newly-debuted NMIXX continues to receive mixed reviews. Do you think JYP's attempt to introduce "MIXX POP" is a success or a failure?
NMIXX's 'O.O' MV, Concept Explanation
JYP Entertainment's rookie girl group NMIXX is creating a fresh sensation in the music industry by pioneering a new genre called "MIXX POP." In particular, the seven-member group debuted with single album, "AD MARE," and its title track, "O.O," on February 22.
Upon release, there were divided opinions among music listeners and K-pop fans. While some were fully accepting the unconventional sound and concept, others sparked a debate that NMIXX plagiarized other groups such as aespa, ATEEZ, etc.

On February 24, the Korean media outlet E-Daily explained that JYP Entertainment's "MIXX POP" is already being introduced. This term refers to a genre in which two or more genres can be mixed into one song to feel various charms at the same time.
This was evident in NMIXX's "O.O," which introduced two genres and three concepts in one MV or song. To start, the song "O.O" unfolds across the genre of Baile Punk and Teenage Pop Rock. The MV then flows in an unconventional way, stitching three stories that are related to each other.
The first part, which starts with an intense trap intro and leads to the Baile punk genre, is dominated by a foggy gray atmosphere. It shows the speed of rushing through a huge wall that blocks the front of the real world.
The second part then showcased the teenage pop-rock genre, to signal the transition from the "dark world" to a "new world."
As they open their eyes, the seven members witnessed a full-natural color mixtopia, where jellyfish and other marine creatures swim, flowers bloom every step, and NMIXX enjoys unlimited freedom between the sea and the sky.
The third and last part then returned to the grand beat of Baile Punk, where NMIXX was seen in a dream-like setting, the moment they shout, "Finally, we'll win."
The seven members, who returned to the real world where the darkness fell, had a different mood than before watching Mixtopia, raising questions about future stories.
As can be seen from the song, which embodies the shape of opening eyes wide to surprise, it contains strong confidence in "preparing to be surprised by seeing something new."
Is NMIXX's 'MIXX POP' a Failure or Success?
Controversies aside, the reactions from K-pop fans are good, nevertheless.
Music fans who encountered "O.O" are showing favorable reviews such as "It's unfamiliar at first, but it's addictive when you listen to it," "The more you listen, the stronger you feel like JYP," and more.
Just a day after its release, "O.O" MV achieved 20 million views, surpassing 1 million views on YouTube in two hours of release and 10 million views in about 20 hours of release.
With this, it is certain that NMIXX is doing well for a rookie girl group. However, for a girl group under JYP, fans are curious if they can be able to follow the footsteps of their seniors such as TWICE and ITZY, who are currently listed as top-tier idol groups.
