Red is the official color of the conservative party. During the election season, many stars are refraining from using emojis or emoticons that are blue and/or red to prevent showing a political stance. Many have even refrained from wearing the colors and are cautious over poses involving their hands, as it may pertain to a particular political party.
Due to the timing of Minhyuk's post, many believe he was showing his support for South Korea's Conservative Party. This drew backlash, as the party has been accused of perpetuating anti-feminist propaganda. They are also known for being radical, and rigid misogynists.

In the post, the idol left a short and brief statement that reads, "This is a waste of time. Just think whatever you want. I think I have said this over and over again. Do not give meaning to useless things."
Shortly after sharing the post, the idol deleted his statement.

His statement received mixed opinions from internet users. Many believed that his tone was excessive and rude. One South Korean internet user commented, "I understand that he is sensitive, but since he is talking to his fans, there is no reason for him to message in such a harsh tone."
Others, however, understood his sentiment and asked for people to not immediately assume that a post is political.
