Kwon Nara first rose into popularity as a member of the K-pop group HELLOVENUS. Despite her individual fame, the group didn't do that well which eventually led to their disbandment in 2019.
Three years after parting ways, where is Kwon Nara now?
Kwon Nara in 2012 to 2019: Debut in HELLOVENUS, Solo Career, Disbandment
Kwon Nara was first scouted to become a trainee by Fantagio when she was in middle school. In 2012, the agency, in collaboration with Pledis Entertainment, officially launched Hello Venus under Tricell Media and the idol was selected as one of the members.
Their debut is not really a commercial success. Thus, Pledis pulled out its artists Yoo Ara and Yoonjo, giving the solo rights to manage to Fantagio.
In 2014, the latter company introduced two new members including Seoyoung and Yeoreum, while Nara remained in the group.
Under the agency, their popularity gradually increased and became known for their releases "Sticky Sticky," "Wiggle Wiggle" and "I'm Ill." But this was not enough to overcome the strong girl group competition at that time and their group activities started to decrease in 2017.
At that time, Kwon Nara's acting career was budding, landing a major role in the popular drama "Suspicious Partner." In the following years, she continued her acting path and made an appearance in dramas, such as "My Mister" and "Your Honor," both released in 2018.
While fans thought that Nara's popularity will reach the group, HELLOVENUS, unfortunately, decided to part ways in 2019 after contract expiration.
Kwon Nara in 2019 to 2021: Name Change, Acting Career
Nara then started to promote herself under her real name Kwon Nara. In 2019, she opened up that although she uses this name, her legal name is actually Kwon Ah Yoon. She changed it to get rid of bad luck when she was hit by a car.
In the same year, she began her full-fledged career as an actress under A-Man Project and bagged her first main role for 2019's "Doctor Prisoner."
Her heydey as an actress came in 2020, after playing the role of Oh SooA in the seventh-highest rated drama in history, "Itaewon Class."
Since then, she became one of South Korea's leading ladies and landed on more main role projects, such as "Royal Secret Agent" and "Bulgasal: Immortal Souls."
Kwon Nara Status in 2022: Idol Changes Agency
As she pursues her acting career, Kwon Nara decided to transfer to a new agency and signed with C-JeS Entertainment, home to Lee Ju Yeon (After School), JunQ, Jaejoong, etc. on June 2.
The agency said:
"We signed an exclusive contract with actress Kwon Nara, who has been reborn as a popular actress by performing a wide range of roles in various works and characters. She is delighted to be working with an actress with infinite potential, and will provide her full support so that she can pursue a variety of activities in the future.”
