Joo Hyun Young Reveals BIGBANG Song That Inspired Viral 'Woo Young Woo' Greeting
On August 24, rising actress Joo Hyun Young sat down for an interview with News1 following the wrap-up of ENA's megahit drama, “Extraordinary Attorney Woo."
Joo Hyun Young captured massive love from drama fans after playing the role of Dong Geu Rami, the supportive best friend of the main female character Woo Young Woo (Park Eun Bin).
During the broadcast period, a unique greeting was born, which goes like:
"Woo to the Young to the Woo// Dong to the Geu to the Ra-mi."
Along with this chant, they also do funny yet cute movements, ending it with a dab.
After it attracted attention from viewers, this so-called "bestie chant" didn't only go viral in Korea, but also became a trend among overseas fans.
In the interview, Joo Hyun Young then revealed the behind-the-scenes story of how the greeting was created— and confessed that it was actually inspired by a K-pop song!
She revealed:
"At first, the script said, "Woo Young Woo Young Woo Dong Dong Geu Rami" Since there's a part like that I made in Coupang's Play "SNL Korea", the writer said, 'I hope you make the greeting fun.'"
She continued that that's what she did, but she also tried to get Park Eun Bin's opinion. Since the latter was busy with her scenes, Joo Hyun Young decided to create it first.
"I was the same generation as Geu Rami, so the popular songs that I actually listened to when I was young were similar. I listened to a lot of songs by BIGBANG and T-ARA.
This is why I decided to quote, 'B to the I to the G (Bang Bang)' from BIGBANG's 'Last Farewell.' The writer wants it to be "hip" so I also search for hip-hop gestures."
'Woo to the Young to the Woo' Greeting Becomes K-pop Idols' Favorite TikTok Trend
