LE SSERAFIM Sakura Reveals Honest Thoughts on Being Told She Was a Bad Singer
Miyawaki Sakura, commonly known as just Sakura, has been in the entertainment industry as an idol for more than ten years already. But despite her decade-long experience as a singer and how much she worked, the Japanese K-pop idol still faces various criticisms and negative comments from the public.
Recently on September 17, HYBE shared the second episode of LE SSERAFIM's documentary series, The World Is My Oyster. In this episode, Sakura becomes emotional as she recalls being called a "bad singer" and how this has affected her mentally.
Sakura confirms that "many people say that she is a bad singer," and admitted that hearing these words had deeply hurt her.
"When I heard that, I was really hurt," Sakura honestly shares.
The pressure of being an idol, in addition to receiving numerous comments saying that she can't sing, eventually led her to having a hard time mentally to the point that she had difficulty going inside a recording booth to sing her lines.

Sakura said, "So it was really hard to even enter the recording booth."
Not only that, but the harsh comments eventually prompted her to want to limit the amount of lines she sings in LE SSERAFIM's songs.
"I heard the parts were all divided. That is basically what I heard. That was also when I started thinking, 'I don't want many lines in the song,'" Sakura shared.
Sakura Declares She Will Continue to Work Hard
Sakura then revealed that she became stuck at one point in wanting to be able to do well, but also not wanting to hear the same harsh criticisms again.
"I want to do well, but I was also worried people might say those things again," Sakura said.
Fortunately, Sakura was able to brave through the obstacles and negative comments thrown her way. Despite becoming emotional, she caldes with a smile that she would do her best to overcome them and work hard.
"This time, I really didn't want to run away. I really want to work hard," the Japanese K-pop idol stated.
Sakura initially made her debut as a member of the Japanese idol group HKT48 in 2011, and subsequently as a member of its sister group AKB48 from 2014 to 2018. She later debuted in the Produce 48 project girl group IZ*ONE in 2018, in which she was a member from 2018 to 2021.
