Following IVE and NewJeans, girl group ITZY also suffered from being caught in a "hemeko" controversy after they attended an event for the fashion house CHARLES & KEITH.
ITZY Draws Divided Opinions For 'Dull' Makeup During CHARLES & KEITH Event
On October 14, Singaporean fashion brand CHARLES & KEITH held a preview event at OUDE in Seongsu-dong to commemorate the launch of the limited edition "ITZ MINE" capsule collection in collaboration with its global brand ambassador, ITZY.
The "ITZ MINE" collection, created for MIDZYs (fandom), features the ITZY logo in tone-on-tone metal decorations in attractive-colored shoes and bags containing the personality and touch of the quintet to the existing brand's iconic style.
On the same day, ITZY was present at the event and graced OUDE with their beauty. During the photo time, the members happily posed for both fans and media flaunting their visuals as well as showcasing luxury goods from the brand as well.
When the photos were shared on the internet, fans and internet users had divided opinions. While the quintet showed off their natural and unique individual beauty, some internet users are not happy to see ITZY's "hemeko."
This Korean slang refers to the group's hair, makeup and coordination.
Web users were shocked to see ITZY appeared in the photo wall and criticized the group's stylist, saying:
- "You look tired overall."
- "The tone is dull."
- "There is no color at all."
- "Please put on blusher."
- "The members' makeup has become weird recently."
- "Change the shop."
Some pointed out that contrary to the quintet's colorful bags and shoes, their makeup doesn't compliment the vibrant feel they are aiming for due to their "dull" makeup. Although netizens are not entirely against ITZY showing their natural visuals, they emphasized that the overall coordination of the group's appearance just doesn't go well and match each other.
Meanwhile, ITZY is not the first girl group to whom stylists and coordinators were called out. Earlier, IVE and NewJeans' hair and makeup artist was also embroiled in the "hemeko" controversy for the unflattering style of the members.
At that time, some IVE fans raised their voices to replace the group's coordi with hashtags such as "#IveShop_Change" and "#Starship_IveShop_Change." Since then, IVE members who recently appeared on various broadcasts have attracted attention as they are organized unlike controversial makeup in the past.
