IVE drew once flak for "lip-syncing" in music festivals, with people doubting their skills. However, they are suddenly receiving praise after REI did THIS.
IVE Rei Apologizes After Her Voice 'Cracked' at the 2022 MBC Entertainment Awards
On December 30, IVE main rapper Rei lowered her head to fans after making a mistake on the year-end ceremony celebration stage for the 2022 MBC Entertainment Awards.
The ceremony was held on the 29th, inviting top entertainers who shone best in the entertainment scene this year.
During the broadcast, IVE held a special performance to commemorate the event. The group heated up the stage with their festive hits "LOVE DIVE" and "After LIKE."
The group boosted the excitement of guests, even more, when they sensibly changed the lyrics of the latter track with the names and short descriptions of significant personalities in the industry.
However, at the beginning (see 0:19 mark) of their "LOVE DIVE" performance, Rei made an "out-of-tune" sound after her voice cracked.
Following the show, a lot of DIVEs (fandom) expressed their worries to the idol. Just then, Rei reassured fans through a PM and said:
"I'm not sick."
Rei then bowed her head, apologizing for what happened, adding:
"It's a celebratory stage for an entertainment award, but I'm sorry that my voice cracked too loud.
Yujin started to get nervous since then. I was so surprised while doing it, but I enjoyed it because I came to celebrate."
IVE Praised For Singing Live Despite Rei's Mistake
Despite the idol's mistake, the stage ended well. Surprisingly, rather than being criticized for it, Rei and the group were praised by fans.
It was because if Rei didn't make that mistake, their lip-syncing rumor might arise again.
In the past, the group was accused of not singing live a couple of times, doubting their singing skills.
But thanks to Rei, this claim was debunked ultimately, even praising the rapper's great live performance.
Viewers stated that instead of nitpicking, they found it cute and a thing that made the performance feel more like a live broadcast.
"You have to focus on the fact that you did a live performance. It is possible to crack your voice at any time. A singer's job is to sing, and I think it's right to do it live. In that sense, I want to give Rei a round of applause. The ones that should be criticized were those idols who used AR Live instead of just a live like Rei. There's no reason to be criticized. "
"It's okay, Rei is usually good at everything."
"Singing live and having your voice cracked is better than not singing live."
People also praised IVE's improving skills, adding:
"I'm another group's fan, but I just want to go here and say that IVE is so cool."
"You have to keep on performing live more and more to become better. Don't be afraid."
"I think the controversy will subside if you continue to sing live like this. I saw it on Naver, but even if your voice cracks, it seems people like it better to do it live with confidence like yesterday."
