In 2017, Lim Young Min initially rose into popularity by appearing on Mnet's "Produce 101," which created WANNA ONE. Unfortunately, he failed to debut with the group after ranking 15th place.
With his fame, he immediately debuted in the same year in a due MXM, along with Kim Dong Hyun, a co-eliminated trainee.
In 2018, MXM joined a quartet called YDPP along with Starship Entertainment trainees, Jeong Sewoon and Lee Kwan Hyun.
Eventually, the project boy group ended their activities, and that's when Young Min joined Starship's new boy group, AB6IX in 2019. Their debut was a commercial success with the popular song, "Breathe."
However, his rising career ended immediately when he was revoked for drunk driving in June 2020. Earlier on May 31 of that year, Lim Young Min was caught commuting DUI by the police after meeting and drinking with his acquaintances.

Amid self-reflection, it was reported that Lim Young Min joined the army to complete his military service in November 2020 and was later on discharged in May 2022.
When he completed his service, Young Min posted another handwritten letter containing his apologies to both fans and people who were hurt by his DUI controversy.
