PENTAGON Hui Reveals Reason He Joined Mnet 'Boys Planet' As Participant

Contrary to the rumor of Hui having discord with members and agency, it seems like the idol joined Mnet's "Boys Planet" for a different reason.

In the survival program's broadcast on February 9, PENTAGON Hui performed an outstanding rendition of BLACKPINK's "Shut Down," which made the mentors give him a standing ovation.

As the crowd calmed down, the mentors expressed their shock to see him perform as a trainee due to his long list of credentials as an idol and producer, emphasizing that it's undoubtedly not easy for him to make such a decision.

With this, Hui finally revealed the real reasons he participated in the show.

He started by explaining that he needs to have a change, especially after coming back from the military. Hui confessed that being away as he served for two years, the K-pop industry changed a lot and things weren't the same for PENTAGON as well.

Hui shed tears and admitted that once he returned, it became harder for the nonet to work on their music.

"It was the first time we got rejected so much. The thought of us not appealing enough to work with made me very sad.”

During the team's heyday, they were listed as one of the most well-known boy groups to be also self-produced, having all members participate and include their inputs on their releases.

Thus, it wasn't only shocking for the group but for the K-pop fans as well to know that they aren't being recognized anymore in the music scene as much as they did before.

Although time wouldn't stop and wait for Hui's return from the military, he felt the burden as the leader of his group. Hui implied that he felt "useless" and that he could not find a way to help the members and improve their situation – the group is seen as unpopular enough anymore.

After hearing his reasons, the mentors and contestants couldn't help but sympathize with the idol.

PENTAGON Hui's Background As K-pop Idol

Although a lot of new K-pop fans and viewers revealed that it was their first time seeing Hui through the show, the idol is actually one of the most talented artists out there!

Hui is not only an "all-rounder" who can sing, rap, and dance skillfully, he is also known for his excellence as a songwriter and producer. In fact, he's the person behind PENTAGON's hits, "DAISY" and "SHINE."

Unfortunately, due to the influx of K-pop idols debuting every year, the music scene transitioned from the third-gen to the fourth-gen era.

Only a few groups from the former era, like BTS, EXO, BLACKPINK, TWICE, NCT, among others, were able to maintain their status amid the popularity of ENHYPEN, TREASURE, TXT, ATEEZ, NewJeans, LE SSERAFIM, IVE, (G)I-DLE, more fourth-gen groups.
