(G)I-DLE Yuqi's 'Controversial' Comment Causes Chaos + Taiwanese Fans Demand Apology

(G)I-DLE's Yuqi, a Chinese member of the popular K-pop group, has found herself at the center of controversy following a recent appearance on a Chinese variety show. Taiwanese fans have expressed their disappointment and criticism towards Yuqi for her remarks during the show, which implied Taiwan's affiliation with China.

Yuqi's Remark Ignites Criticism

The controversy erupted on July 17th when a video interview featuring Yuqi and fellow (G)I-DLE member Minnie was uploaded to the official YouTube channel of Zhejiang Satellite TV.

In the video, the producer asked the duo to address their "Chinese fans".

Consequently, Taiwanese fans was disappointment and disapproval of Yuqi's implication that Taiwan is part of China. They argued that her comments disregarded the delicate political situation between the two regions and displayed insensitivity towards her fellow group member, Shuhua, who hails from Taiwan.

The controversy arises at a significant time for (G)I-DLE as they recently released their first English digital single, "I DO," on July 14th. The group has also been embarking on their second world tour, aiming to connect with their international fanbase.

As (G)I-DLE continues their endeavors to expand their global reach, Yuqi's remarks on the Chinese variety show have inadvertently sparked criticism and raised concerns among Taiwanese fans. It remains to be seen how the group and Yuqi will address the situation and work towards maintaining a positive relationship with their diverse fanbase.
