Earlier, NMIXX received a poor rating of 1.5 from a reputable music critic for its pre-released b-side song, "Roller Coaster." Here are fans' reactions to it.
NMIXX's 'Roller Coaster' Receives 1.5 Rating From Music Critic — Here's Why
Han Sunghyun, a well-reputed music critic and editor of the pop-culture webzine, IZM recently drew attention as he revealed his review of NMIXX's b-sidetrack, "Roller Coaster" released on July 3.
In his review, music critic Han started by giving his critique of the group itself, highlighting the imbalance in their popularity and music quality. He wrote:
"NMIXX is a group that's living proof that that the popularity of the singer and the quality of the music may not match.
Although the team's name is known and each members are well-recognized, their songs are volatile. They are unmemorable and it doesn't make me hum. It is a kind of litmus paper-like song that checks people's reactions in a musical experiment embedded in the neologisms of MIXXPOP.
Regarding, its b-sidetrack, "Roller Coaster," Editor Han added:
"Fortunately, "Roller Coaster" is slightly out of the sham of MIXX POP, but the poor melody still remains. To hide this, the rhythm was emphasized and filled with multiple sounds, and the members overlapped the vocals with six identical tones to cover the gaps.
So it feels cluttered and tiring. Excellent sound mixing, sophisticated rhythm, and easy to hear without trimming hooks, if not polished are also uncomfortable to listen to. The public means the majority of people, and popular music targets an unspecified number of people. Popular music should be accessible."

Following his review, there are numerous internet users and fans, especially NSWERs (fandom) who showed mixed reactions about it.
In particular, following its release on the 3rd, "Roller Coaster" became a hot topic and was deemed as the "best song of NMIXX yet," pointing out that the group finally found their "own" sound after doing multiple experimental songs under the new genre, "MIXX POP."
While there are people who agreed with some of the music critic's controversial take, some fans still find it unreasonable to give the song a 1.5 rating and questioned the music critic's harsh review.
Here are some of the comments:
"It has a weak impact, but this is my favorite NMIXX song so far. In the first place, the concept of MIXX-POP is a mistake..I can't relate to the review because first of all, the six members have different voices. Especially when we cross the bridge, Lily's high notes and other members' voices are noticeable. Although it may be a problem that I can't feel the difference that is unique to NMIXX, the melody itself is easy to listen to, so I think it's good to hum."
"To be honest, when I look at NMIXX, I really think each of them is amazing because they are good at everything, good-looking, good at dancing, and good at singing, but when I listen to the song, I can't hear them.
It feels like when you like the idols, but not the song. This is not a malicious comment, but because they are really talented and likable, I am rooting for them to sing a popular song like their senior groups from the same agency.
NMIXX is a group that could have been more popular (of course, they're still popular), but I'm sorry if the members are only likable. I'm sorry in advance if I don't know something."
- "Roller Coaster' is really doing well, but the title track is the problem."
