In a significant legal development, the 12th Civil Division of the Seoul Northern District Court has delivered a verdict against Blockberry Creative, the entertainment company behind the popular girl group LOONA.
The court ruled against the company in their legal battle with former LOONA member Chuu, invalidating her exclusive contract with the agency.
Mediation Efforts Falter: Contractual Invalidity Established
The contract in question, signed in December 2017, has now been deemed legally null and void by the court. The presiding judge declared, "The exclusive contract concluded between the plaintiff, Chuu, and the defendant, Blockberry.
The legal conflict between Chuu and Blockberry had escalated over the months, initially beginning in January of the previous year when Chuu filed for a preliminary injunction to halt the effects of her exclusive contract.
However, KEMA rebuffed Blockberry's demands, clarifying that the matter would be determined through the ongoing main lawsuit overseen by judicial authorities.
The verdict stands as a testament to the complexities of contractual relations in the realm of South Korean entertainment, highlighting the intricate balance between agency and artistic independence.
