6 Most 'Overused' K-pop Concepts that Fans Don't Want To See Anymore

THESE six concepts by female K-pop artists are so "overused" and "boring" due to their "overlapping" appearances among third and fourth-gen girl groups. While it is natural for MV concepts to be repeated in several groups, K-pop fans, especially foreign fans, complained about the themes that they don't want to see anymore.

Here Are 6 Most Overused K-pop Concepts:

1. Toy Gun

Among them, fans expressed their frustration with MVs with "toy guns" as the main props. While this gives more charm, especially to MVs which aim for a girl crush vibe, it made some viewers uncomfortable.

According to international fans, these incurred and recall "trauma" to those people living especially in countries with a lot of gun shooting incidents.

2. Confusing Worldview

Due to its engaging narrative, the worldview concept is a hot trend among groups right now, which falls under the fantasy concept.

One of the most popular examples of this is SM Entertainment's "KWANGYA."

In this concept, out-of-this-world words and characters are introduced, such as aespa who has a black mamba and naevis.

Most fans complained:

"It was fresh at first, but sometimes the lyrics feel awkward because they continue to produce songs based on the worldview."

3. Western Teen High

As the Y2K concept and girl crush became popular, Western fans expressed regret, saying:

"I think we have lost the cuteness and vitality that only K-pop has."

Rather than the pure and innocent concept that the old K-pop used to have, the "I don't care about you" narrative was being used these days, losing the sweet characteristic of "teen love."

4. Chill

Shying away from the electronic and EDM sound of K-pop, which became popular among second and third-generation groups, fourth-gen artists such as NewJeans seem to go for comfortable and chill melodies.

Recently, they created multiple hits with similar concepts such as "Ditto," "ASAP," "Cool With You" and more.

While a lot find this refreshing, some fans conveyed regret that the cheerful and addictive roots of K-pop are slowly fading.

5. School Uniform

Since the first-gen era of K-pop, the school uniform concept has been a craze but some fans are a bit bored by it now, especially since most K-pop girl groups used school uniforms as their stage outfit.

What makes it worse is that most of them are altered to fit sexy styles.

"Crop shirts and short skirts change the practical functions of existing uniforms into sexy styles, making it uncomfortable (in the eyes of fans). It's even worse, especially for groups that are minors."

6. Racing Concept

International fans feel negatively on the "racing concept." Many express their frustration with the appearance of racing scenes unrelated to the lyrics.

This fit girl groups who incorporate cars and sports 'fits. Sadly, most female groups' lyrics incorporate racing themes that don't even suit their song's lyrics and concept.
