V is being criticized online for wearing a durag in his live broadcast. However, ARMYs have stepped up to the idol's defense.
Here's what happened.
BTS V Receives Mixed Responses for Wearing Durag in Weverse Broadcast
On October 9, the ARMY fandom was left divided due to V's actions in his Weverse livestream, where he shared his experience during Lil Uzi Vert's afterparty. The party took place after the rapper had finished his performance at the One Universe Festival 2023.
At some point during the broadcast, V presented a red durag to the viewers and was shown wearing it. The singer also added that the durag was given to him as a present. "It's a doogeon (term for bandanas), it was a gift to me," V stated.

For further context, the durag is a protective garment that's used by Black people to shield their hair from damage, as well as maintain patterns and lines. Its history also included the accessory being a symbol of pride in the Black community.
Since the garment has unbreakable ties in terms of culture and significance, many people consider it as cultural appropriation if the durag was worn by someone who is not Black. This led V to garner negative reactions from netizens, who called him out on social media.

On the other side of the fandom, ARMYs defended V's actions and argued that the durag is a fashion accessory that can be worn by anyone. They also claimed that V had no bad intentions from the start when he wore the garment in his live broadcast.
