In the teasers, Chiquita caught fans' attention with her visuals in orange hair, her street-style 'fit, and high-top shoes.
She immediately drew excitement about the group's concept as she exuded a hip vibe, reminiscent of senior groups, 2NE1 and BLACKPINK.
Born in 2009, Chiquita is said to be the youngest member yet her expressions and gestures were filled with confidence. Compared to her child-like appearance when YG released its debut reality show, Chiquita had grown one step further with her more mature visuals and aura.
BABYMONSTER Chiquita Compared to BLACKPINK Lisa
When her visual film and photos were released, Chiquita drew attention for her background, age, and nationality.
Currently 14 years old, Chiquita, who came from Thailand, is said to have trained only for 3 months, the shortest training period among them. She's particularly lauded for her dancing and rap skills, which reminded people of BLACKPINK Lisa.
Similar to Chiquita, Lisa who was born in Thailand also debuted as the youngest member of BLACKPINK and was highly-recognized for her top-notch rap and dance skills.
When Chiquita was first introduced in their reality show, she initially drew attention for her full bangs and blonde hair, similar to Lisa's signature hair when she debuted.
YG explained:
"She joined the BABYMONSTER project just three months after becoming a trainee because she was highly appreciated for her innate star quality as well as her solid musical capabilities."
When K-netizens saw her, they couldn't help but raise their expectations, as the next-generation artist from Thailand since Lisa.
- "I see just as much charm as Lisa."
- "She will be hotter than Lisa."
- "They say she's from Thailand but unlike Lisa, she doesn't have that Southeast Asian vibe."
- "Our niece is so pretty. She looks like a combi of Lisa and Jeongyeon."
- "Oh, I feel like I'm seeing the early days of BLACKPINK. As expected, each company has its own unique vibe."
- "Maybe I had high expectations, but I couldn't feel the same vibe I felt with BLACKPINK."
- "She's like a little Lisa. I feel like her strength will improve as she gains more experience."
BABYMONSTER to Debut on November 27
Meanwhile, BABYMONSTER will make their official debut on the 27th and is drawing attention as a "monster rookie," who is expected to shake K-pop with high-quality vocal, dance, rap, and visuals.
They are a multinational group, comprised of seven members from various countries: Ahyeon, Haram, and Rora from South Korea, Ruka and Asa from Japan, and Pharita and Chiquita from Thailand.
Even before their debut, they recorded 3.17 million subscribers to their official online channel and more than 450 million cumulative views.
With this, there is high anticipation that they will be able to meet the expectations and keep up with the bar that 2NE1 and BLACKPINK initially set.
