In a surprising turn of events, the CEO of FANTASY BOYS' agency, PocketDol Studio, has officially addressed the departure of former member Yu Junwon, who clinched the top spot on MBC's debut survival program FANTASY BOYS.
The announcement of Yu Junwon's exclusion from the final lineup in August sparked controversy, with conflicting statements regarding contract disputes and high parental demands.
A Second Chance Offer
On December 5, PocketDol Studio's CEO Kim Kwang Soo issued a statement, expressing the agency's willingness to give Yu Junwon a second chance under specific conditions.
The CEO stated that if Yu Junwon acknowledges his mistakes and returns before the upcoming Tokyo concert, discussions with the group members will determine the next steps.
Despite potential legal obstacles, CEO Kim Kwang Soo pledged to persuade their production company, Phunky Studio, to withdraw all lawsuits against Yu Junwon. He also offered to bear the associated legal costs.
The CEO emphasized that proceeding with the lawsuit could adversely affect Yu Junwon's future, underscoring his intention to contact the former trainee soon.
Legal Repercussions and Pending Lawsuit
Yu Junwon, initially on the verge of debuting with FANTASY BOYS, faced legal challenges following his unauthorized departure and issues related to profit distribution before the official debut.
His court-ordered suspension of the exclusive contract application was dismissed on November 24, leaving him responsible for all legal costs, including the production company's fees.
Lawsuit Details and Future Proceedings
The court deemed most of the production company's contract terms aligning with standard guidelines for K-Pop singers.
With the production company filing a ₩3.00 billion KRW (about $2.28 million USD) lawsuit against Yu Junwon, the legal battle is set to proceed in early next year, further complicating the trainee's path to redemption.
