KBS Bans 2 Songs From (G)I-DLE's Upcoming Album '2' — Here's Why

THESE 2 songs from (G)I-DLE's "2" album are banned from KBS, but the group and Cube Entertainment are expected to apply for reconsideration after making revisions.

Why were the tracks deemed unfit for broadcast

On January 21, the quintet unveiled their pre-released single "Wife," before their official comeback on the 29th with their second studio album, "2."

While it immediately rose atop various music charts, the song sparked a controversy over sensationalism due to its alleged "nonsense" and "sexual" lyrics.

Meanwhile, music fans defended the singers and highlighted its hidden message of overthrowing misogyny and the patriarchal system.

Sadly, the track has been banned by a broadcasting giant.

Despite the positive comments of fans, KBS still ruled the song "Wife" as unfit for broadcasting.

On January 24, the channel explained that the song was ineligible for broadcast on TV and music shows due to its lyrics that were "too sexual."

Some of the lyrics that made the channel lead to their decision were:

"But that's not enough, pick the cherry on top // If you get it now, you should try it now."

Even the title of the song "Wife" claimed to be openly reminiscent of sexual activity as well.

(G)I-DLE Soyeon, the leader of the group, was the one who wrote, composed, and arranged the song.

As expected of the controversy, the lyrics of "Wife" have not yet been posted on the music site. Songs that have not passed the deliberation are not expected to be heard on KBS 2TV's "Music Bank" as well as various entertainment programs and radios.

Aside from this, another upcoming song, "Rollie," which is scheduled to be released on January 29, was also judged ineligible for music broadcast by KBS for mentioning the brand of a specific product.

Yuqi, (G)I-DLE'smember, participated in writing and composing the song.

The label applied for reconsideration by revising some of the lyrics that will pass KBS music review's standard.

As a terrestrial music program is scheduled to appear, it seems inevitable for them to revise the lyrics for a smooth comeback. The part needing revision were the lyrics allegedly giving off "sexual innuendoes."

Regardless of the controversy, (G)I-DLE continued to tease their second full-length album and its title track, "Super Lady." Earlier, its story film was posted on the group's official social media platforms.
