Did This Taiwanese Girl Group Copy NewJeans For Their Audition Show Performance?
South Korean internet users are debating online concerning a performance featuring girl group members from the Taiwanese audition show "Next Girlz."

"Next Girlz," which premiered in July last year, is an audition program where six girl groups from different entertainment companies competed in nine different rounds. The winner of the show would earn a cash prize and a chance to make their official debut.
This program has drawn comparisons to Mnet's "Produce 101" series. The media has described "Next Girlz" as one of the similar survival audition programs that have emerged in Taiwan in recent years, riding on the global popularity of South Korean survival shows.
One particular performance that caught the attention of Korean internet users was "Really" by CryXtal during Round 3, which was shown on the August 12, 2023, broascast.
Many viewers noted the resemblance between this stage and NewJeans' "Hype Boy" performance, despite differences in the number of team members and the song's overall vibe.
The choreography and styling have several uncanny similarities to "Hype Boy," leading some South Korean netizens to question if it was a "fake" version of NewJeans. Many claimed the blue and white outfits were similar to what NewJeans wore in their music video and live stages.
"Next Girlz" mimicked the format of Korean audition programs, leaving traces of K-pop influence throughout the show. In addition to NewJeans, performances by other girl groups that reminded viewers of other K-pop girl groups like I.O.I. and IVE were also criticized.
The audition program concluded in October 2023, with Magic Blue Bear being crowned the winners.
