IVE Jang Wonyoung Criticized For Being 'Too Skinny'

On February 4, 2024, a post concerning IVE member Jang Wonyoung's body was uploaded to a popular South Korean online community forum. In the post, they wondered how healthy the female idol is with how her body looks.

On top of that, the user claimed that Jang Wonyoung looks like she needs to be hospitalized.

They compared the double standard male and female idols face. They claimed that if a male idol was as skinny as Jang Wonyoung, their fans would ask them to keep on eating to gain weight.

However, since Jang Wonyoung is a female idol, they claim no one is worried about her, even though she "only has bones left."

The user attached several photos of Jang Wonyoung that showed off how skinny she is.

How Did People React to the IVE Jang Wonyoung Weight Criticism?

After only a day, the post went viral on the forum. The post gathered 144,000 views and hundreds of comments, with people rushing to defend the female idol.

They claim the idol actually takes great care of her health and has documented how much she eats and how she manages her body through exercise.

Many also criticized the poster, asking them to focus on their health instead because they might be unhealthy.

However, some agreed with the original poster's point. They noted that being skinny is just as bad—if not worse—than being obese for your health. Because of that, Jang Wonyoung should look after her weight to make sure she has a healthy BMI.

Some comments read,

  • "Jang Wonyoung is healthy. She eats well, controls her diet, and exercises regularly. You are the stupid one, probably eating like a pig, lying down, and leaving malicious comments. Rather, you are the one who is not healthy. So who should be worried about who?"
  • "People are so stupid. They only think that being obese is bad and that you need to lose weight for your health, but being skinny is just as bad. The fact is that being underweight is worse than obesity."
  • "Guys, let's just say that we are not healthy and we should all be criticized. Let's say that the only healthy and pretty women are people like OP, right?"
  • "OP, I think your mental health is sh*tty."
