LE SSERAFIM Draws Mixed Reactions For Filming 'EASY' MV in a Church

Following the release of LE SSERAFIM's "EASY" music video, a debate sparked over whether it was appropriate for them to film in a church. Keep on reading for all the details.

Is It Appropriate That LE SSERAFIM Filmed 'EASY' MV in a Church?

On February 19, LE SSERAFIM made their much-anticipated comeback with "EASY." Following the release of the music video, people took to social media to point out that the girl group had filmed their music video in a church.

A tweet by @soheenrk on X (formerly Twitter) went viral, with over 5 million views as of this writing. The user commented that the fact they filmed in a church is disrespectful, citing that their choreography and outfits would be considered "scandalous" since they are performing in a religious institute.

Throughout the music video, the members can be seen wearing crop tops, sleeveless tops, tight pants, and see-through outfits. Their dance also makes use of a lot of hip movement, which could be considered indecent.

On top of this, the music video made use of several elements of Christianity, such as nuns and thorn crows. The LE SSERAFIM logo also drew some criticism for resembling a Christian symbol with a heart, fire, and an arrow stabbing across them.

Netizens Debate on Whether It Is 'Disrespectful' For LE SSERAFIM To Film 'EASY' MV in Church

Following the tweet, people took to Twitter to discuss whether or not it was wrong for Source Music to pick a church as the set for a music video.

Many accused the girl group and their label of trying to turn Christianity into an aesthetic. They noted that just their name, LE SSERAFIM, is derived from the Christian term "le seraphim." They hope that the group stops using Christianity as a concept because it is rude to those practicing the religion.

The backlash intensified after Huh Yunjin and Sakura shared Instagram posts of them in the church wearing "scandalous" outfits. Huh Yunjin was seen wearing an off-shoulder gown.

Meanwhile, Sakura wore a see-through dress that showed off her shoulders and shorts.

However, it was also noted that they filmed in the Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles, which has been used as a set for music videos and films in the past. The church was used as a set for the films "The Amazing Spider-Man," "Legally Blonde 2," and "John Wick." Additionally, the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles filmed their cover of "True Colors" in the church.

The church is also used as a concert venue, with artists such as Hozier and Jenny Lewis performing there.

As other artists and production companies have been able to film there, people believe LE SSERAFIM should not be criticized for their choice of filming in a church.
