K-Media Claims 'There Has Never Been Girl Group Like TWICE Before' — Here's Their Reason

A Korean news outlet highlighted reasons there is "no other girl group like TWICE."

On March 7, The Fact released an article that summarized the remarkable achievement by "Nation's Girl Group" TWICE in their 10th year — making them one in a million among other K-pop artists.

What's their secret to reaching such success?

TWICE's Records That Paved the Way for Girl Groups that Never Existed Before

At the start of the article, the media wrote:

"There has never been a girl group like this.

In just its second year of debut, it has already swept daesangs (grand prizes) at various Korean music award ceremonies.

In their 7th year when other teams were at the crossroads of disbandment, they have been more active overseas and earned numerous achievements.

And in their 10th year, achieving the No.1 ranking at the U.S. Billboard 200 showed that they paved a new way for girl groups that have never existed yet."

The outlet then mentioned how TWICE once again proved their unrelenting influence with the release of their 13th mini-album, "With YOU-th," on February 23.

Upon its release, TWICE became a million-seller on the first week and No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart for the first time since their debut.

This was truly a huge achievement since as a girl group from the third-gen era, where the album sales are low, surpassing a million sales against fourth-gen artists is an indicator of their continuous reign in the music scene.

In fact, even if boy groups such as EXO and BTS were the strongest in album purchasing power back then, TWICE wasn't lagging and was the only girl group that sold more than 300,000 copies between 2016 and 2019, and ranked second and first in sales of girl group albums (based on circle chart) in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

With the influence of the fourth-generation girl groups regarding album sales, TWICE then became the first million-seller in 2022 and surpassed 1.67 million in 2023.

K-Media Reveals 'Secret' of TWICE's Long-Lasting Impact in K-pop Industry

On top of their album sales and entry in the U.S. Billboard, The Fact emphasized that the main "secret" of TWICE is their unique and diverse music itself.

"The secret is TWICE's unique color and honesty. Aside from the liveliness that dominated the local music charts before, TWICE showed its growth into a confident, charismatic and cool woman."

TWICE doesn't conform to trends, rather, it continues to become experimental while not losing its own identity & color.

This could be felt in their consecutive hits, "Cheer Up," "TT," "KNOCK KNOCK," "Signal," "MORE & MORE," "Fancy," "I Can't Stop Me," and more.

Another reason cited by the media why TWICE maintained its status was due to the group's unbreakable and solid relationship.

"In idol groups, there is a '7-year curse' which is when their exclusive contract period ends, and in particular, most girl groups disband because their heyday is not long.

But during that critical period, TWICE turned its attention to new markets and achieved its current position after repeated challenges and growth.

TWICE's unique strength is that 9 members continue to work in one company without a single member leaving."
