On March 16, the Korean boy band Night N Day, also known as NND, debuted with their first mini-album "Wonder, I" under Takiel. Inc.
It has been a week since its release, but the group struggled to achieve even 100 album sales, only selling about 30 copies.
Who Is Night N Day (NND)? Korean Duo's Members, Concept, 'Wonder, I' Album, More
For those who haven't heard about NND, their name stands for "Night N Day," which means, "I want to do music that fits well at night and during the day."
NND is a two-member Korean band composed of DAYN, a member in charge of vocals and guitars, and Youngjun, the keyboardist and maknae of the group.
DAYN
Born in 1999, DAYN is the eldest of the team and is also the vocalist and guitarist of NND.
He participated in writing and composing all 5 songs in the album, which became more special as this album was also his debut work as a songwriter.
Youngjun
Youngjun, born in 2000 is the youngest and the keyboardist in NND. He also debuted as a songwriter with this album.
Prior to debuting as an artist, he worked with various K-pop idols including former TraxX's Jungmo in "Marionette" as well as with Brown Eyed Girls' JeA as a keyboardist.
In fact, the senior idol also graced them with her presence as their MC during their debut showcase on the 15th.
Meanwhile, their first mini-album, "Wonder, I" consists of five songs including its title track, "First" as well as b-sidetracks, "Overdrive," "Night Off," "Love is a Myth" and "Kind of Love."
According to Youngjun, both of them were preparing to debut in a band together in another company but failed. Afterward, they decided to reunite under Takiel, Inc. to form a new team and debut as NND.
Throughout their promotion, their dream is to be able to go on a solo concert and be nominated for the Korean Music Awards.
NND Fails to Achieve 100 Album Sales for 1st Mini-Album on Its First Week of Release
Despite their aspiration and impressive vocals and music quality, the start of NND was already rocky.
In the K-pop culture, physical album sales and digital performance are both huge indicators of the rising popularity of a team.
However, NND is strong in neither of the two.
On YouTube, its official MV for "First" only has 2k views and its monthly listeners on Spotify are 1, 835 as of the writing.
Its album's first-week sales based on Hanteo only reached 28 sold copies, barely making it to 100.
Although it is unstable since Takiel is a small/medium-sized agency, K-pop fans are hoping that other music listeners won't sleep on NND's music, emphasizing that with the right amount of hype, support and promotion, their potential is really vast.
On various social media platforms, their budding fandom is also helping to promote the group, leaving positive reviews such as:
- "The atmospheric vocals. This is such a cool band, looking forward to seeing more of them! DAYN and Youngjun!"
- "I like everything! Their songs are the best!"
- "Oh, they deserve better than this."
- "They popped up on my recommendations, and I have no regrets clicking! They have so much potential! Just listened to their album on Spotify, and I loved every song!"
