After earning criticism for unimpressive live vocals during their first encore, ILLIT Moka once again left fans disappointed with her singing.
Here's what happened.
Not Again! ILLIT Moka Criticized for Being 'Tone-Deaf'
On April 9, HYBE's newest girl group, ILLIT, bagged their second music show win during their appearance in SBS MTV's "The Show."
Many were anticipating their encore to see if they improved after massive backlash, but music fans were sadly dismayed after hearing Moka's vocals.

During their encore, ILLIT performed their debut hit, "Magnetic," which is currently dominating the domestic music charts and the U.S. Billboard.
The song's bubblegum pop sound, together with its innocent lyrics about having a crush, make even non-fans fall for the song, not to mention its viral hand choreography.
But while everything was going well, there was one thing holding fans back from fully cheering on ILLIT, and that was because of the claim that the "members can't sing."

During their first encore on the same show, the quintet raised brows for unstable vocals and out-of-tune singing. At the time, the fandom defended the group by claiming that it was because they were crying and nervous.
But during their second encore, netizens were not buying this "excuse" anymore after hearing them sing once again.
According to spectators, there were improvements to Wonhee and Iroha's singing, but Moka wrinkled up these notable upgrades by delivering an unstable performance.
Even if she was only standing, she barely reached the right note. K-netz then claimed that she's "tone-deaf."
Oh they really canβt sing especially moka https://t.co/2XQHOw1JNy pic.twitter.com/pChvZPJPty

Moka need vocal and English lessons. Idk how they are even struggling with a song that is just talking itβs not even singing. They all are struggling except minju. They could be good with vocal training. The potential is there.

K-pop Fans Debate on ILLIT's Live Singing Skills Following Latest Encore
Support remains for the rookie group, but after ILLIT's latest encore performance, people continue to show sour reactions to the members. They noted that the group couldn't even properly perform an "easy" song.
With this, ILLIT fans began the discourse that being a K-pop idol is not only being able to sing. They said that the job also centers on various fields like rapping and having charms.
They added that people should not expect Moka to sing very well since it's not her specialty, and that they should rather appreciate her dance and impressive facial expressions.

The 2 girls that started the song actually can sing well. Tho 2 of the other members are weaker in vocals. But overall I would say, being a kpopnstan for almost a decade... I've heard much worse encores.. so people should go easy on them because they don't really sound bad. https://t.co/jf0UN4Avxc

This is also the reason the idol system distributes roles to members, such as "main vocalist," "main dancer," "main rapper," etc.
However, K-pop fans contradicted this and emphasized that while roles existed before, even the rappers and visuals from the 2nd and 3rd-gen era could sing as well as the main vocalists of the current K-pop groups.
This is not to mention that the songs back then even had complicated choreographies, and the highest notes of high notes that songs nowadays don't have.
i still don't get how stans can defend such a lack of vocal skills, pls higher your standards this is getting embarrassing especially for these young girls who don't deserved this amount of hate for something that the company could have avoided (by not debuting them) https://t.co/gBWEgvv2bc pic.twitter.com/z0u3lcKGAu

i blame hybe. back in 2nd/3rd gen encores were amazing, really good stable vocals. but ever since 4th gen the standard for a good encore dropped. βit wasnβt that badβ posts are proof of this. the standard of whatβs considered good has fallen and it needs to be fixed. https://t.co/PQcLzapWAd
