A video of NewJeans members Hanni and Minji quarreling has gone viral online.
On May 7, NewJeans's oldest member Minji celebrated her 20th birthday. To celebrate, The entire group held a live stream on their fan communication platform Phoning to interact with fans.
During the stream, a playful yet concerning moment unfolded between Minji and Hanni that captured the attention of netizens. As they chatted with fans and had fun amongst themselves, Minji attempted to inhale helium from a balloon so that her voice could be pitched higher, like a chipmunk.
Hanni quickly attempted to stop her, saying, "No, Kim Minji, let it go." Despite Minji's insisting that she wanted to do it, and even pointing out that it was her birthday, Hanni refused.
Soon, it was revealed that the reason Hanni was being so strict was because she was concerned for Minji. She stated, "Okay, but if you get dizzy, I'm just going to ignore you."
The other members watched as the two "bickered," taking on the roles of commentators during this light-hearted fight. This endearing exchange quickly went viral on social media.
On TikTok and X (formerly Twitter) alone, the clip of Hanni stopping Minji from inhaling helium garnered nearly 3 million views. Bunnies appreciated Hanni's concern, understanding that inhaling too much helium could be harmful to health.

In other news, NewJeans released the music video for their single "Bubble Gum" on April 27, 2024. They are scheduled to release their second single, "How Sweet," in May. They are also preparing to release an album in the second half of 2024.

On May 1, they released the teaser for the music video "Right Now," which was made in collaboration with Japanese visual artist Takashi Murakami. The group is scheduled to make their Japanese debut with the double singles "Supernatural" and "Right Now." NewJeans is slated to hold their first fan meeting in Japan, titled "Bunnies Camp 2024 Tokyo Dome" on June 26 and 27.
They will also be collaborating with Kao and Shibuya109 to open pop-up stores in Tokyo in April and May.
