Karina's "Supernova" line became a hot topic in online communities.
Earlier on May 13, aespa officially released their newest song "Supernova," which is the pre-release of their upcoming album "Armageddon." Immediately upon its release, the song received rave reviews online, as many praised aespa's musicality, performance, and MV.
Apart from the praise "Supernova" received with its experimental hyper-pop sound, one of its lines instantly made rounds on various social media platforms.
Specifically, the iconic line that gained the most traction was Karina's "Ah, Body Bang!," which was perfectly delivered by her low and deep register voice. The line also produced numerous posts online, showing how impactful and memorable the line was among listeners.
Eventually, the line gradually reached an online community for a different reason. As many K-pop fans are aware, there has been an ongoing conflict between HYBE and ADOR, which was further ignited by Min Hee Jin's fiery press conference earlier on April 25.
During the press conference, Min Hee Jin exposed some of her conversations with HYBE founder Bang Si Hyuk, who asked the ADOR CEO if she would be able to "crush aespa." This specific remark has since caused outrage among MYs and K-pop fans.
The backlash against Bang Si Hyuk eventually reached to a point where netizens and fans would snipe the HYBE founder whenever aespa gets praised for their talent, live vocals, stages, success, and stage presence.
On May 23, netizens flocked to a forum titled, "Ah, Body Bang: Are These Lyrics Sniping At Bang Si Hyuk." The author uploaded a screenshot of Karina saying the line, "Body Bang," and implied if the phrase was used to shade Bang Si Hyuk.
"Is she telling us to look at Bang Si Hyuk's body?," OP joked.
In the thread's comments, netizens were amused with the post and used this chance to express how funny the joke was. Read their reactions below:
- "You think? (sarcasm)"
- "They made that song way before."
- "Ah I burst out laughing."
- "Wow so there are people who think like that too."
- "Ah seriously it's so obviously not that I exploded in laughter."
- "Me too I thought of Bang Si Hyuk the first time I listened to it lol It's freaking funny. Of course, it's not about him but whenever I sing it, I go "Sihyuk Bang bang bang bang."
- "Your analysis is so freaking funny."
- "After seeing this post, this is the line's meaning to me from now onwards."
International fans were also amused with the post. While others mentioned that it's obvious that the song was produced way before Min Hee Jin's explosive conference, the line's sudden buzz across the internet was considered by many as insane timing due to Bang Si Hyuk's message about aespa.
Here's how they reacted:
- "Obviously they made this song way before, but the timing is so awfully right lmao."
- "Lol this is so hilarious, I can't even. Now Bang Si Hyuk will pop up to my mind whenever this part of the song comes up."
- "This is genuinely so funny lmao. Obviously, the song was probably created long ago but if it turns out to be last-moment decision, it's gonna be hilarious."
- "Oh, that actually cracked me up lol."
- "The timing is impeccable lol."
