Min Hee Jin Accused of Plagiarism For f(x) 'Pink Tape' — Here's Why K-Netz Aren't Convinced

While Min Hee Jin has been accused of copying for f(x)'s 2013 album "Pink Tape," Korean netizens are not convinced.

On May 23, 2024, a post titled "Suspicions over Min Hee Jin plagiarizing 'The Pink Tape'" was shared to one of South Korea's most popular online community forums Instiz.

In the post, the original poster shared the album art for Spanish artist Pink Tape's "Anomaly" extended play. The album art features a purple-pink cassette tape with the words "PINK TAPE" on it. The tape from the cassette appears to have been pulled out. The extended play was released in 2012.

They then included the album art for f(x)'s second studio album, "Pink Tape," which was released in 2013. f(x)'s album art makes use of pink videotape, with a label that features all the members and the words "PINK TAPE." Additionally, the cassette tape categorizes he "film" as romance and cult. It is well known that Min Hee Jin was involved in the creative side of f(x)'s work at the time.

The biggest difference between the two album arts is the use of a cassette tape for Pink Tape and a videotape for f(x). People state that these are two extremely different things and are the biggest indicator that Min Hee Jin did not plagiarize Pink Tape's work.

It was also noted that the tape in "Anamoly" isn't similar at all to the pink used in f(x)'s album, which also means Min Hee Jin did not copy.

Others noted that f(x) using "Pink Tape" as their album title could be coincidental, as artists are allowed to release work with titles that have been used before.

Many suspected that the allegations were made by those who are supporting HYBE in the current legal battle between the corporation and ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin. Previously, she was accused of plagiarizing Mexican girl group Jeans for NewJeans's concept, another accusation that is believed to have gone viral due to HYBE fans sharing it online.
