The group will be releasing their final music before parting ways.
On June 6, Korean news outlet News1 released an exclusive report sharing that girl group Weki Meki will disband after releasing their final digital single. Sources also state that the members have decided to support each other's endeavors in the future.
The group debuted in the K-pop industry on August 8, 2017. They are also a group consisting of eight members, namely Suyeon, Elly, Yoojung, Doyeon, Sei, Lua, Rina, and Lucy.
Notably, Yoojung and Doyeon are also former members of the project K-pop girl group I.O.I, who debuted on May 4, 2016, and WJMK, which is a special project unit formed by Starship Entertainment and Fantagio Music.
Fantagio also uploaded a teaser on its official SNS, announcing the group's comeback title as "CoinciDestiny." According to the post, Weki Meki is set to release the single on June 12, at 6 p.m., KST, which will also wrap up their seven-year journey.
"It is correct that this (song) will be Weki Meki's farewell," Fantagio shared.
The collage shows the Weki Meki members holding hands while running across a green meadow and treasuring their time together.
K-Media also stated the title "CoinciDestiny," which is a compound word of "Coincide" and "Destiny," will emphasize that the members and fans were destined to become one.
"I will forever remember the times we met by chance, dreamed of fate, and shone brightly," it captioned.
On social media platform X (Twitter), fans and netizens reacted to the update. The news instantly triggered their heartbreaking reactions, as many expressed sadness over the group's upcoming disbandment. Others were frustrated regarding Fantagio's treatment.
Read their reactions below:
- "Digital. Single. Is it BLACKPINK discography, because why are we getting 1 song in 3 years?"
- "6 days to go and it seems we get nothing for promotions."
- "A digital single, collage poster even I could make, and probably barely any promotions. This is not how Weki Meki deserves to go."
- "Lmao digital, are you saying you can't offer other activities and comebacks for the girls and this is the last?"
- "You guys wasted this group, @fantagiomusic_. They didn't deserve the way you treated these talented girls."
Weki Meki's previous release was on November 18, 2021, when the octet released their fifth mini album "I Am Me," and the title track "Siesta."
