In a contentious turn of events, the YouTube user known as Middle7, who was previously sued for defaming the K-pop girl group NewJeans, has resurfaced with a provocative new post mocking the entertainment company HYBE.
The controversy began in April when NewJeans' agency which is ADOR, filed a lawsuit against Middle7 for spreading defamatory content about the group. Following the legal action, Middle7 briefly disappeared from the platform but has now returned and reigniting the conflict.
In a recent YouTube community post, Middle7 boasted about their perceived invincibility, stating:
"It wasn't intentional, but I only used the ISP's IP address. According to the information provision order, the period requested by HYBE for the IP address was in October of last year, and at that time, I was not living at my registered address. If Google can help a bit more with the timing, I might not get caught."
The post also included a picture of IVE member Jang Wonyoung, accompanied by a mocking caption that read, 'Lucky Vicky,' further taunting the situation.
Many netizens have weighed in on the matter, with one commenter highlighting the challenges of tracking down such elusive users.
"Even someone like Sojang, who left traces everywhere, was hard to trace by IP and was only able to be tracked down after three attempts. So, catching someone based on an empty account and ISP IP would be more difficult."
Another user pointed out potential complications in the legal process, noting that:
"Google might not readily hand over the information, and even if they do, the ISP's IP retention might expire by that time."
Despite these hurdles, ADOR remains resolute in their pursuit of justice. They have already applied to a California federal court to order Google to disclose the identity of the individual behind the Middle7 account. The court's ruling on this request is still pending.
