Is This Real? DAY6 Young K Outshines G-DRAGON & ZICO in Music Royalties

On a recent episode of JTBC's popular television show 'Knowing Bros,' the members of the K-pop band DAY6 made a guest appearance, with Young K taking the spotlight for an intriguing revelation about his music royalties.

One of the hosts, Lee Su-geun, highlighted Young K's achievements by mentioning:

"Young K, I heard that you earn one of the highest royalties from your copyrighted works compared to others in the industry." This statement was underscored by a visual on screen that boldly stated, "Young K Earns More Royalties than G-DRAGON and ZICO."

When probed about his earnings, Young K humbly responded, "I'm not at the top yet. I'm not No. 1 in Korea or anything. But I'll keep working hard to make that true."

The show delved deeper into the band's creative process, revealing that all DAY6 members are involved in songwriting and composing. Young K shared insights into his early days, stating:

"I've been writing songs since before our debut. When our agency told us I would be part of a band, they said, 'To truly be a band, you must produce your own songs and let the world know about your band through those songs.' It took a few years until I could properly write songs. That's actually why our debut was delayed as well."

Among his numerous compositions, Young K identified 'You Were Beautiful' as his top-earning song.

"Since its release in 2017, it has consistently ranked around the top 100 on major music charts in Korea," he noted.

He also mentioned another significant earner, 'Rose Blossom' by the girl group H1-KEY. Reflecting on its success, Young K said:

"I felt strange when it started receiving so much love because it was written a long time ago, even before I enlisted in the military in 2021. The song existed before H1-KEY did. I think it's been so well-received because it found the right singers," he explained with a big smile on his face.
