New MacBook Air Impressions: Double The Battery Life, But Users Complain Of WiFi Problems Upon Release

With the new processor codenamed "Haswell," the new MacBook Air is proclaiming to have roughly double the battery life than its predecessors, but initial consumers also report WiFi problems.

According to Gotta Be Mobile, Apple support forums are being littered with customer complains like the one sent out by user vhkim.

He or she complains that the brand new MacBook Air "is able to connect to the internet for just a minute or two before suddenly [dropping] out. This is even though the signal still shows at full strength and all my other devices are still able to surf the net as per normal."

"This device is straight out of the box so no 3rd party applications have been installed. I heard that the WiFi has been upgraded to 802.11n on this machine, could that be an issue?"

Due to the diversity in WiFi setups generated from the complaints, it is difficult to know what the problem is, but a current suggested fix is to update the firmware on the customers' WiFi router.

Even with such issues, "Haswell" and Intel's claim of a much longer battery life is no lie.

According to Wall Street Journal contributor Walter S. Mossberg, an initial test of the 13 and 11-inch MacBook Airs showed significant improvement in battery life, especially the 13-inch machine at a 65% increase.

As of now, the "Haswell" machines are priced relatively the same compared to the older generation. The 13-inch MacBook Air is $100 less at $1099 with 4GB ram and 128GB solid state storage, while the 11-inch is $999 with an upgrade up to 128GB in storage.
