Kangin Apologizes to Leeteuk After the Backlash Latter Suffered for Trying to 'Defend' Him

In a recent vlog, former Super Junior Kangin bowed his head to Leeteuk after the leader met ridiculous hate for leaving "nice words" about him.

On his official YouTube channel, the former idol uploaded a new vlog titled "Thank you for coming | Kangin's Reading Comments."

Here, he briefly updates his recent status by saying that he's been working out and doing well, then proceeds to read the comments left by fans and netizens on his vlogs.

As expected, there were a lot of hateful comments, calling him names such as "sc*mbag," "trash," etc., but Kangin received it humbly and attested:

"I keep saying 'It's a mistake of the past.' I say this repeatedly but I will do the right thing."

As a quick context for why he's been receiving such negative comments, Kangin was involved in a DUI scandal. While he was initially forgiven by ELFs (fans), Kangin was also involved in a controversy over assault and his second drunk driving case, which eventually led him to leave Super Junior in 2019.

Since then, he has been self-reflecting and was barely seen in the entertainment scene. His last public appearance was during the wedding of his former co-member Ryeowook in May, where the complete 15 members of Super Junior finally reunited.

Despite the happy gathering at the time, their leader, Leeteuk, faced unnecessary backlash for his remark, which was when he introduced Kangin to the guests and asked them to forgive him. He said:

"You guys are seeing Kangin who has spent more time reflecting than he has been doing his current activities. I ask for your forgiveness."

Back to the vlog, one internet user then said:

"I saw Leeteuk stab Kangin in the back twice. Bigger picture, lol."

Reading this, Kangin immediately defended Leeteuk and apologized, saying:

"I can't go into detail regarding this situation, but Leeteuk Hyung didn't have any intentions when he said that. The atmosphere on set was bright and cheerful, and he just wanted to remove the awkwardness.

I hope there will be no misunderstandings because the article came out that way unintentionally. I am worried. I want to say that Teuk-hyung is in a difficult situation because of me, so I'm very sorry. I hope you don't misunderstand! It's all because of me."

He also pleaded to ELFs:

"To all Super Junior fans, if you want to criticize, do it to me. I am really sorry."

He also cheered for his former group, saying:

"Recently, in Myeongdong, I went to eat hotpot. A Chinese employee waited until I finished eating. She then asked me for an autograph very fluently in Korean, so I signed it. She said she came to Korea for Super Junior. That's why she learned Korean. She cried a lot.

She might not have come for me because currently I am not a Super Junior member, but they have such an influence overseas. I hope they can get a lot of recognition."
