TWICE Tzuyu Criticized for Kissing Elkie,  Shuhua on the Lips — Is It Queerbaiting?  Elkie/Instagram

The friendship between TWICE Tzuyu, Elkie, and (G)I-DLE Shuhua often delights fans. However, this time, some raised their brows after they kissed on the lips, accusing them of queerbaiting.

On November 7, former CLC Elkie took to SNS to share that she celebrated her 26th birthday with her close friends Tzuyu and Shuhua.

In one photo, her fellow Chinese K-pop idols garnered attention for kissing Elkie on the cheeks, but what really captured fans' attention was when the Hong Kong-born idol also unveiled a clip where the three of them kissed on the lips, then laughing among themselves afterward.

When this clip circulated online, their three fandoms were sent into a frenzy, celebrating the friendship of these women.

In addition to this, some allies of the gender minorities rejoiced, seeing how same-sex K-pop idols are now slowly showing intimacy, which can open opportunities for other idols to show their true sexualities once the general public becomes more accepting of it.

Still, some raised their brows against the three, particularly Tzuyu, as some accused TWICE members of "queerbaiting," a term that describes straight idols appealing to the LQBTQ+ community without explicitly depicting it.

Just recently, Nayeon and Sana also kissed while on stage, setting the K-pop scene abuzz. Since then, there have been fans who are looking forward to this kind of fanservice.

Others are doubting if it is still just fanservice or queerbaiting now, due to its frequency.

With these allegations, ONCEs (TWICE fandom) are quick to defend the group and insist that the members are just really affectionate with each other and even to friends that they are close with. Also, they are still real human, who can kiss whoever they want, thus, the accusation is forced hate.
