Hermione Granger and The Harry Potter Team Conjure a New Franchise

Emma Watson, who played Hermione Granger in the popular movie series that was based on the Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling is said to be developing a new movie franchise called “Queen of the Tearling” with Warner Bros. Pictures and the producers of the “Harry Potter” series.

Emma Watson announced that she will be teaming up with Warner Brothers studios and David Heyman, who was the producer on the Harry Potter series, to produce an adaptation of the book “Queen of the Tearling” by Erika Johansen. The team are eyeing the books as a possible franchise. The project is still in development. The producers are still looking for a director and a writer. Warner Bros. acquired the rights to the book and will distribute, according to published reports.

David Heyman and Jeff Clifford will produce through Heyman’s production house Heyday Films.

“Queen of the Tearling” was written by Erika Johansen. Harper Collins will publish the fantasy trilogy starting in 2014. “Queen of the Tearling” has been described as a female “Game of Thrones.” It is set 300 years after an environmental disaster when the world is run by a nasty Red Queen. Emily Watson is set to play the 19-year-old idealistic princess named Kelsea Glynn.

Erika Johansen signed a seven-book deal with Harper Collins in February. The first novel in the series is due next year.

Since the “Harry Potter” film series was killed off by destroying the Death Eaters, Emma Watson has played in “Perks of Being a Wallflower” and the recent movie about the celebrity heists that embarrassed Paris Hilton and friends, “Bling Ring.” Watson also did the voice for Princess Pea in the animated film “The Tale of Despereaux.” Watson played herself in “This is the End.” Watson is next set to play in the Guillermo del Toro film “Beauty.”
