The much-anticipated 2024 MBC Gayo Daejejeon finally transpired on January 29 and 30 following the postponement of its New Year's Eve schedule.
Upon airing, the festival quickly became a hot topic online for its star-studded performances and outstanding collaborations that transcended various K-pop generations.
The event was also led by the industry's top centers and visuals, such as Girls' Generation's YoonA, SHINee's Minho, and TWS' Dohoon, collectively known as "The Centerz."
Minho: There’s been this one thing in my mind since earlier, next to me there’s our YoonA who’s the original nation’s center and I’m the visual of SHINee. As well, Dohoon is the center of TWS. How about calling three of us, the Centerz?!

During the event, an unexpected moment occured when the MCs recited a familiar tagline, "Wanna be our star," leaving ASTRO's fans, AROHAs, flustered.
For context, the phrase "Wanna be your star" is ASTRO's signature introduction, and fans swiftly took to X to express their confusion.
While it's not uncommon for taglines to overlap in the music industry, AROHAs felt frustrated since the MCs are idols themselves. They were even more surprised that MBC, which closely collaborates with idols, seemed unaware of the catchphrase deeply tied to ASTRO's identity.

In K-pop, an introductory greeting is crucial as it determines the group's unique identity and sets them apart from numerous acts in the music scene.
Adding to AROHAs' disappointment was the fact that member Cha Eun Woo has worked with MBC for years. Fans stated that MBC not properly crediting his group is a blatant disrespect.
As a result, the fandom is urging MBC to apologize to ASTRO for "stealing" the tagline.
How can MBC plagiarised A Kpop group's Introduction tagline... Like isn't that a Group's Creative property, and isn't that an unspoken rule that You can't stole it or even copy it!?!?!?!?

Shame on MBC for such an unprofessional act! https://t.co/tV5lzJljH3
i wonder if mbc script writer already out of idea/shameless until they decide to use ASTRO "wanna be your star" greeting as part of their show meanwhile not even invite any Astro members to the show. They not promoting their new song at music show is not an excuse to ignore them https://t.co/oN4Xubv40h

mbc gayo daejejeon used "wanna be your star" as an emcee catchphrase, which has been astro's greeting for almost 9 years. they also had them do a hand gesture at the same point in the greeting? weird and kinda insensitive decision by mbc. https://t.co/XMbNM8i0vP
