Playstation 4 Release Date Rumors: PS4, Xbox One Pre-Ordered At 2,500 Consoles A Minute On Amazon

Customers pre-ordered a Playstation 4 or Xbox One on Amazon.com at a rate of 2,500 consoles a minute, Now Gamer reports.

The online retailer sent a press release last week that announced its highest ever number of pre-orders because of PS4 and Xbox One sales.

Amazon's press release also mentioned that there was a 4,000 percent increase in orders compared to consoles ordered during E3 of the previous year - but neither the Playstation 4 nor the Xbox One had been announced.

The number of PS4 and Xbox One pre-orders was nearly two times that of all video game sales of 2012's Black Friday shopping week, Now Gamer also reports.

But the PS4 and Xbox One consoles aren't the only products gamers are pre-ordering and awaiting.

Sony is expected to announce several new Playstation 4 titles at Gamescom - a trade show in Germany - this August.

"There's a lot [of games] coming," said Sony Computer Entertainment Europe CEO Jim Ryan in an interview with Gamereactor.

"I'm sure you heard from Shuhei [Yoshida, president of Sony Worldwide Studios] that he has, just from his studios, 30 games in development. 20 are going to ship within the first year of the console's life and of those 12 are new IPs, so there's a lot going on, it's just that we need to keep stuff back. We've got Gamescom for us Europeans and we need something to show at Gamescom."

Gamescom will run from August 21-25 in Cologne, Germany where Microsoft and Nintendo will also attend.
