Matt Lauer Confirms Paula Deen Will Appear On ‘Today’ Show Wednesday After No-Show Last Week [VIDEO]

Matt Lauer, host of the NBC talk show "Today," confirmed on air that Paula Deen will appear for an interview for Wednesday's broadcast, after deciding not to appear last Friday.

"She has told us she will be here this time," Lauer said Monday on the air.

Deen, a Southern comfort food cook who stars on Food Network, backed out of the Friday broadcast. Her PR team cited "exhaustion" as the reason, Hollywood Reporter states.

Later that day, Deen released two videos apologizing for using racial slurs in the past, including the N-word, and begged fans for forgiveness.

However, hours later the Food Network announced that it would not renew the contract for her show when it ends this month, The Washington Post reports.

Deen released a statement over the weekend, saying: "I have had the pleasure of being allowed into so many homes across the country and meeting people who have shared with me the most touching and personal stories. This would not have been possible without the Food Network. Thank you again. Love and best dishes to all of ya'll."

According to Deadline Hollywood, the "Today" website questions whether Deen can make a comeback after hurting her image with the racist allegations. Deadline suggests that her appearance on the "Today" show may ignite the issue further.

The controversy arose from a 2012 discrimination lawsuit.  In Deen's May 17th deposition filed Monday in federal court, Deen admitted that she used racial slurs in family life and tolerated racist jokes in the workplace in the past.
