Sony Xperia Z Ultra Specs Revealed: Sony’s Android 'Phablet' Features 6.4 Inch Screen, 8MP Camera, Optional Stylus

Sony Xperia Z Ultra specs were revealed today, June 25, in Shanghai, China.

Sony unveiled its giant smartphone, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, at the Mobile Asia Expo in Shanghai, China, according to a report from BBC.

The Sony Xperia Z's release dates for different countries were also confirmed during the event.  The Sony Xperia Z release date for Singapore, China and Indonesia is set for some point in July, while the massive handset device will be available in Europe by September.

Calum MacDougall, the director of Xperia Marketing explained to BBC, "Southeast Asia is the key market for the product because the trend towards large-screened smartphone devices is stronger there. But we also see the trend in Europe as well."

One notable Sony Xperia Z Ultra spec is the 6.4 inch screen, which is slightly bigger than those of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Mega (with 6.3 inch screen). Other key Sony Xperia Z Ultra specs are: 1080p screen resolution, 16 GB internal storage with expandable memory of up to 64GB using microSD card, 8MP camera, and battery that could provide 120 hours of audio playback or 11 hours of talk time.

Aside from its IP58 certification, meaning the 'phablet' is water resistant and dustproof, Sony also showed off the slim size of the giant phone with only a thickness of 6.5mm or 0.26 inches, which is "only slightly deeper than the thinnest device on the market, Huawei's Ascend P6," according to the BBC.

CNET also noted the powerful processor included in Sony Xperia Z Ultra specs. The large handset device sports a 2.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, so users can expect fast performance from the phone.
