Doc Rivers Clippers Deal Finally Finished; Also Named 'Senior Vice President Of Basketball Operations'

Doc Rivers will be announced as the new head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers in Los Angeles tomorrow at a 2 pm EST, and he'll also have the title of senior vice president of basketball operations.

There was some consternation involved as Glenn "Doc" Rivers huddled with his agent and they looked over the contract with the Clippers.

Also, the NBA didn't give its approval for the exchange until earlier today.

The completion of the deal whereby Rivers was allowed out of his contract to head to Los Angeles in exchange for the Clippers' 2015 first round draft pick was delayed Monday night.

ESPNBoston.com's Jack MacMullan reported that the long time coach was with his representatives negotiating the language of his new contract with LA.

Sources on Sunday confirmed the Clippers will take Rivers' three-year, $21 million contract.

The Celtics agreed to release Rivers from the last three years of his deal in exchange for the first round draft pick in 2015.

Rivers was the Godfather of the Celtics' much-famed "Ubuntu" rallying cry learned from the teachings of Desmond Tutu.

He coached the Celtics to an NBA championship in 2008 and another Finals appearance against their arch-rivals on the other coast, the Los Angeles Lakers in 2010 where they lost a tough game 7 in LA's Staples Center after losing their starting center, Kendrick Perkins, to an injury in game 6.

Rivers is replacing Vinny Del Negro with the Los Angeles Clippers, after he was not offered a new contract after a season that saw the Clippers win more games than they've ever done in franchise history while winning the Pacific Division for the first time in team history as well.

But after their historic regular season, the Clippers lost in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs to the Memphis Grizzlies, after winning their first two games of the series.
