Former Washington Wizards guard, and mercurial social media maven, Gilbert Arenas, was arrested in Los Angeles earlier this morning after police discovered fireworks in the back of his truck.

TMZ is reporting that Arenas was arrested in the early morning hours of Thursday driving with a pickup truck which was carrying A LOT of fireworks.

So many fireworks in fact, that when Arenas' stash was discovered by the police, they had to call in the bomb squad!

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ, Arenas was pulled over at 2:30 AM by California Highway Patrol for speeding in a Ford pickup.

The officers who pulled him over immediately saw that the truck was filled with fireworks in plain sight within the cab of the truck in the back.

TMZ initially reported that Arenas was arrested and booked for possession of illegal fireworks and cited for speeding and driving without a license.

He was allegedly going 80 mph in a 55 zone.

Police discovered and confiscated 20 boxes carrying over 100 pounds of fireworks in the bed of Arenas' truck.

Police weren't to keen about unloading all the explosive material, so they called in LA's bomb squad unit to take care of Arenas' exlosive merchandise.

Gilbert last played in the NBA as a reserve with the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2011/12 season.

Earlier in his career, during the 2010 NBA season, Arenas was busted for gun possession while a member of the Washington Wizards.

He brandished a loaded pistol at teammate, Javaris Crittenton, in the locker-room after an earlier card game turned salty.

Both players were suspended by NBA commissioner, David Stern.

Since then he was traded to Orlando, who promptly amnestied the hundred million contract Arenas was still signed for, and after his brief detour with Memphis, he hasn't been seen in the league again.

Arenas was released without bail and was booked for misdemeanor possession of fireworks.
