On the mound for Philadelphia will be Jonathan Pettibone, who is 3-3 with a 4.14 ERA. He left his last start with soreness in his back, but was cleared to pitch Thursday in L.A.
Phillies slugger Ryan Howard has had his best month of the season, batting .313 (25-for-80)
"He's being more patient," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel told MLB.com. "He's been trying to put the fat part of the bat on the ball."
