Angry Birds Wii U Release Date Announced [VIDEO]: Rovio's Hit Game Trilogy Is Taking Flight For Nintendo Consoles August 13

Rovio announced the US release date for the Angry Birds Wii U and Wii versions.

The Finland-based game developer, Rovio, revealed that the “Angry Birds Trilogy” will be available for Nintendo gaming platforms Wii and Wii U on August 13 across North America. However, the Angry Birds Wii U European release date is yet to be confirmed, “although it's likely to launch a few days later on August 16,” the Digital Spy reported, citing Polygon.

The “Angry Birds” Wii U and Wii collection will include hit titles like the original “Angry Birds”, and the “Angry Birds Seasons”, as well as the “Angry Birds Rio”.

According to Joystiq, the Angry Birds Wii U version will showcase touchscreen features and will be off-TV compatible. The game will also be shipped with 'Game-pad only' play on Wii U.

Rovio previously made a commitment to create Angry Birds Wii U and Wii versions after the success of the game on popular consoles such as the Nintendo 3DS, Sony PlayStation 3, and Microsoft Xbox 360, according to Engadget. Reports showed that a million copies of this mad fowl game were already sold by February of this year, since its arrival in the market late last year.

Petri Järvilehto of Rovio shared what he felt about seeing the game adapted for other game platforms, stating, "It was certainly satisfying to see Angry Birds gameplay adapt so well to other platforms in 2012. The features specific to the Wii U are very intriguing to us, so we're excited to release this version to fans."

The “Angry Birds” compendium for the Wii U and Wii consoles also include new levels, aside from the standard gameplay of the three famous Angry Bird titles. According to a post from Digital Spy, the entire game pack will feature “140 hours of gameplay across 30 episodes”.
