Puma Drops Aaron Hernandez: On Trail For Murder Leads To Loss Of Endorsement As Well As His Jersey's Availability

Puma drops Aaron Hernandez from its men's training initiative after the German shoe and sportswear company signed the former Patriots tight end to a two-year endorsement in April.

Now in custody and heading toward trial for murder, it was only a matter of time and as Puma drops Aaron Hernandez, other apparel websites have decided to discontinue his jersey, including the NFL's own website taking down his Patriots jersey.

Puma drops Aaron Hernandez without acknowledging how much money was in the endorsement that contract.

"I can confirm we have ended the relationship with Aaron Hernandez," Puma spokeswoman Katie Sheptyck told USA TODAY Sports on Thursday. She did not tell USA Today any further info about the money involved with the contract.

As Puma drops Aaron Hernandez, the NFL has almost immediately taken down his jerseys. Hernandez was arrested Wednesday from his home in North Attleborough, Mass. and was charged with first-degree murder, in addition to five gun-related charges with the death of Odin Lloyd. Less than three hours later, his jersey was dropped from the shop section of NFL.com.

"We decided it was the appropriate step to take," NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy wrote in an e-mail to USA TODAY Sports.

The jerseys are not offered on Amazon either any longer.

Hernandez can be sentenced to life in prison without parole if he is found guilty.
