Serena Williams Boyfriend 2013: Maria Sharapova Disses American Wimbledon Star After She Personally Apologizes? Tennis Stars Fight Over Grigor Dimitrov Relationships

Serena Williams said she personally apologized to her Maria Sharapova about her recent comments two days before the Russian tennis star retaliated with her own thoughts, the New England Sports Network reports.

The Wimbledon star, who recently defeated Caroline Garcia, said Maria Sharapova made nasty remarks about her and her coach Patrick Mouratoglou, who is rumored to be her clandestine lover.

"She was inadvertently brought into the situation by assumptions made by the reporter," Serena Williams said, according to the New England Sports Network.

"I personally talked to Maria at the player party, incidentally. I said, 'Look, I want to personally apologize to you if you are offended by being brought into my situations. I want to take this moment to just pour myself, be open, say I'm very sorry for this whole situation.'"

Maria Sharapova's retaliation comments targeted her Serena William's relationship with Patrick Mouratoglou his personal life.

"If she wants to talk about something personal, maybe she should talk about her relationship and her boyfriend that was married and is getting a divorce and has kids," Sharapova told reporters responding to Serena William's initial comments.

"Talk about other things, but not draw attention to other things. She has so much in her life, many positives, and I think that's what it should be about."

But Serena Williams said she's not letting Maria Sharapova's comments deter her run in the Wimbledon 2013 and her overall tennis career.

She has not commented on her relationship with her coach and rumored lover.
