Doink the Clown dies as the original persona of Doink, Matt Osborne passes away at the age of 55.

Osborne, who played the evil version of the prankster Doink the Clown dies from reasons not yet released.

The news that Doink the Clown dies came from WWE.com itself and TMZ, which both did not report the cause of his death. The only other news released was that he was found dead at his girlfriend's home in Texas, who Osborne was staying with, according to PWInsider.com.

"WWE is saddened by the news of Osborne's passing. Our deepest condolences go out to Osborne's family, friends and fans," the WWE said in a statement.

After his career in the WWE, Osborne went on to compete for ECW and other independent wrestling organizations before retiring with his last match in 2010.

Playing the jokester clown for only a little more than a year, the character went on to be played by countless others. Doink the Clown even became one of the more popular "good guys" of the 1990s and was a fan favorite.

Before being able to embrace the role of a fan-favorite, Osborne was released from the WWE because of a reoccurring drug problem he was having at the time.

"Reports indicate that Matt Osborne, aka the original Doink the Clown, has passed away. A rugged brawler in promotions like Mid-South Wrestling and World Championship Wrestling, Osborne made a major impact in WWE under the greasepaint of a prankster named Doink - one of the most enduring personas of the early '90s," written on WWE.com.
