Free games for Xbox Live Gold Members this month are coming so make sure to check them out! Microsoft revealed that Hidden Path Entertainment's "Defense Grid: The Awakening" and Ubisoft's Renaissance-era title "Assassin's Creed 2' are the free games for Xbox Live Gold Members for July. 

IGN reported that "Defense Grid: The Awakening," one of the free games for Xbox Live Gold members, is already available for download, as part of the promotion run by Microsoft called "Games With Gold."

Defense Grid: The Awakening will be free for Xbox Live Gold members only until July 15. On July 16, the game will go back to its usual price of 800 Microsoft Points which is worth $10. After successfully downloading the free tower-defense game, it will be in the player's account forever, even if his or her Gold subscription expires.

After Defense Grid, another free game for Xbox Live Gold members will be featured, which is Ubisoft's open-world action game, Assassin's Creed 2. According to Polygon, Microsoft has already announced that Assassin's Creed 2 is going to be free in Xbox Live Marketplace from July 16-31.

"Assassin's Creed 2" is one of the free games for Xbox Live Gold members that were mentioned during Microsoft's E3 2013 press conference for its "Games with Gold" program. Halo 3 was the other free game revealed but there is no confirmation yet regarding its release date.

"Games with Gold" program which offers 2 free games for Xbox Live Gold members every month is the counterpart of PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection from Sony. Each title featured in Microsoft's free games program will be available for download for half of the month. To kickoff the program, Microsoft released Fable 3 on Xbox Live free-to-download from June 10-30.

Games With Gold is due to last only until Xbox One's launching on November, but according to Larry Hryb, Microsoft's director of programming, the service may be extended, depending on how it will go.
