4th Of July 2013: Fireworks In Washington DC; Six Great Places To Celebrate ‘A Capitol Fourth’

4th of July is here, and residents of Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C. are getting geared up to watch fireworks light up the sky above the nation's capital. But where is the best place to watch the fireworks on the fourth of July?

There are six places that are favorites of loyal fans of the Washington D.C. fourth of July fireworks, according to InTheCapital.com.

The first and most traditional place to go is The National Mall. Fireworks will be launched from the Reflecting Pool and the show will take place over the Washington Monument, WJLA reports. According to National Park Service officials, the show will begin just after 9 p.m. Many will set up picnics on the green and watch the fireworks explode overhead. Since The National Mall spans a huge area, it will be easy to grab a spot for your family without getting overwhelmed by crowds.

The Tidal Basin is another great place to watch the 4th of July fireworks in DC. Though most people only come to this area to watch the cherry blossoms bloom, the reflection of the fireworks in the water is a sight that must be seen by every Washingtonian.

The Iwo Jima Memorial is another great spot to watch the fireworks in the capital. As InTheCapital.com reports, the memorial is actually located in Arlington, but is easy to get to by Metro. The memorial is dedicated to all the men and women of the United States Marine Corps who have died for their country since 1775.

Another great view for the fireworks is D.C.'s Memorial Bridge. As InTheCapitol.com warns, there isn't much space to sit so it wouldn't be a great place to bring children, but it gives a fantastic view of the show.

The Air Force Memorial is a newer monument that many people don't know about. This means you won't have to fight huge crowds to get a good spot to watch the fireworks.

Lastly, the Meridian Hill Park gives another great view, as the hill will give you a higher vantage point than the other sites. The U St. bars are also located nearby so it's a great place for those who would want to grab a post-show drink.
