Jerome Iginla Signs With Boston Bruins: Joins The Team That Swept Him On Their Way To What Could Have Been His First Stanley Cup

Jarome Iginla signs with Boston Bruins, according to a report on Friday.

After being traded from the Calgary Flames to the Pittsburgh Penguins in what possibly could have been his first Stanley Cup, Jarome Iginla signs with Boston Bruins after they ended up being the ones who hoisted the Stanley Cup trophy.

Jarome Iginla signs with Boston Bruins to a one-year, $1.8 million contract that could hit $6 million with attainable bonuses, according to USA Today.

"I knew Boston was a great team," Iginla said before the Eastern Conference finals. "It was one of those situations when I (chose Pittsburgh) that I knew there was a big possibility we'd be in this situation, and here we are. I'm looking forward to the challenge."

During the four-game sweep that the Bruins had over the Penguins, Iginla was a -4 and did not score a goal.

The Bruins lost free agent winger Nathan Horton, defensemen Andrew Ference and Aaron Johnson and backup goalie Anton Khudobin earlier Friday before the singing of Iginla.

The 36-year-old former Olympic gold medalist played nearly 16 seasons in Calgary before the trade to the Penguins. Pittsburgh finished with the top record in the Eastern Conference, but there was possibly too much momentum from the Bruins for the conference finals.
