Lionhead Rabbits Showed Off During 2013 4-H Fair Show; Adorable Bunnies Participated In Contests And Activities

Lionhead rabbits were popular breed in the recently held Shelby County Fair.

Though famous bunnies like Bugs Bunny and white Rabbit were no show at the 2013 Shelby County Fair's 4-H Rabbit Show  that happened July 4, an adorable breed was able to capture the hearts of the attendees -- the Lionhead rabbits. 

There were various rabbit activities and contests held in 4-H Rabbit Show such as the Rabbit Director's Chair and Fur Class Contest, according to Shelby News. Furthermore, five different breeds in different shapes, colors and sizes were represented during the event to compete in various categories like best of breed best of variety, best show, ambassador contest and a lot more.

However, one of the most popular breeds of these wonderful animal creatures to ever grace the event is the Lionhead rabbits. For instance, Rylee Kleine, owner of Lionhead rabbits entered a Sable Point Lionhead cottontail named Sugar in the junior competition, while Hershey, a chocolate-colored Lionhead rabbit participated in the senior competition. The two Lionhead rabbits she's petting were both cute and fluffy as they are covered with soft fur "resembling angora."

According to the report, Kleine's family earn three more Lionhead rabbits. When asked about she came to pet rabbits, she shared, "My sister really liked rabbits. So I started liking them."

Another attended of the 4-H Rabbit show was Lexi Wilkins, third time to participate in the fair; brought with her a 6-month-old black and white Lionhead rabbit she named Oreo. She noted, "I get to have fun with them."

In Shelby County, 'rabbitries' is a famous hobby of the residents.

Moreover, lionhead rabbits are include in the newer breeds of domestic mane in the US. The appearance of lionhead rabbits is so distinct, with its wool mane that encircles the head, resembling that of a male lion, thus, the name. According to Wikipedia, other characteristics of Lionhead rabbits are: high head mount; short well-furred 2" - 3" ears; compact upright body type; and usually 2 ½ - 3 ¾ pounds of weight.
