Nicole Scherzinger and Lewis Hamilton had a painful break up last week, bringing their five-year relationship to an end. Hamilton reveals he is having trouble dealing with the break up, and Scherzinger isn't doing much better.

Hamilton, a Formula 1 star, admitted he was having trouble focusing on his job and he's "lost someone really special in my life," The Metro reports.

Hamilton explained his "grumpy" mood to Sky Sports, before the German Grand Prix in Nurburgring.

"You have different people who are able to keep in their emotions - I have a Finnish trainer, for example, who doesn't show any emotion and they are always able to control it," he said. "Me, I wear my heart on my sleeve and that gets me in trouble a lot of the time and I generally find it very, very hard to fight my emotions.

"I'm going through...I'm trying my hardest to be positive but I'm going through a really, really tough time at the moment with the loss of someone really, really special in my life. My world's turned upside down, but I have a job..." he admitted.

The 28-year-old confirmed that he was speaking about Scherzinger and their break up. But he didn't want his heartbreak to influence his job: "I have a job to motivate my team and if I come in with my head down and negative energy then that goes around to all my mechanics who work day and night, and I don't ever want that. So I'm really trying to pull myself together and keep my head up but it's so hard to do."

35-year-old Scherzinger has also been crushed by the break up.

The X Factor judge said that her break up "sucks" at the audition in Cardiff on Wednesday.

"It pulled on my heartstrings," Scherzinger said in response to a song being performed about a break up.

"It sucks doesn't it? Really sucks," she added.

Hamilton and Scherzinger reportedly split due to their hectic work schedules and the difficulty of a long distance relationship.
